An offering in service of the Veda
An edition for anyone who wishes to read, recite and learn.
कृष्णयजुर्वेदः What is the Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda?
The Yajurveda is the Veda of the yajña: the mantras and ritual formulae through which the sacrifice is performed. Its Kṛṣṇa (“black”) recension weaves the mantras together with brāhmaṇa, the prose that explains how and why each rite is done. The Taittirīya Śākhā is the most widely studied branch of the Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda, recited daily in homes, pāṭhaśālās and temples, especially across South India. Tradition traces its name to the tittiri birds of the Purāṇic account, the disciples of Vaiśampāyana who received the Yajus.
The śākhā comprises the Saṃhitā (seven kāṇḍas), the Brāhmaṇa (three aṣṭakas), and the Āraṇyaka, which includes the Taittirīya Upaniṣad and the Mahānārāyaṇa Upaniṣad. Alongside these are the Kāṭhakam portions and the Ekāgnikāṇḍam, the mantras used in domestic rites.
किमर्थम् Why this edition
The Veda has been preserved for millennia by recitation, where a single svara or sandhi matters. Yet the texts a learner finds today are scattered across books, scanned PDFs and websites, and they often differ. Many are hard to search, and many lose the svara entirely. taittiriya.com brings the whole śākhā together in one place, accurately and with svara intact, free for anyone to read, recite and learn from.

गुरुः My teacher
Sri Lakshminarayanan
ब्रह्मश्री लक्ष्मीनारायण शर्मा · मन्त्रालयम्
By good fortune, and through my family, I was introduced to my guru. From him I learned the Taittirīya Śākhā, and with his blessings I practise it daily.
परम्परा In reverence to Adi Shankaracharya
My spiritual life is rooted in his tradition and the guru-paramparā of my matha. I offer this work in gratitude to that lineage and to the teachers who have guided my learning.
The edition is open to all who wish to study the Veda.

परिचयः About me
I am Sridhar Iyer, a Veda Abhimānī and a student of the Vedas. The Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda is my svaśākhā. My love for the Vedas began with my father, who from my childhood brought me to pundits to learn Sanskrit and, through it, our wider tradition.
I am an engineer by training and a technology executive by profession. This portal is where those two parts of my life meet.
Read, recite and learn. If you find an error, or would like to help, please write to me.
मूलं शुद्धिश्च Sources & accuracy
When I began, I compared many versions of the text: printed books, online PDFs, copies, and resources such as Veda VMS. The edition I rely on most, by Mullaivasal Sri Krishnamurthy Sastrigal of Madras Sanskrit College, is the primary basis for the text here.
शुद्धिः How it stays accurate
Learned reviewers read the text on the site and flag any error on the exact passage: a svara, a sandhi, a word. Every correction is checked before it becomes part of the text, and the PDFs update automatically. Reviewers are credited by name.
